Frequently Asked Questions


Every staff member must be thoroughly background checked by local law enforcement, and FDLE.Is your school licensed?
Yes, our school is licensed by the Department of Children and Families.
What organizations do inspections of your school?
The Department of Children and Families is required to perform at least two inspections each school year. Organizations such as the Health Department and local Fire Marshall also perform frequent inspections.
Does your school do a background screening on all employees?
Yes. Every staff member must be thoroughly background checked by local law enforcement, and FDLE. These investigations are done through fingerprinting and affirmation of good moral character. All background screens are performed before any employee may begin employment with our school.
Does your school have an "Open Door Policy?"
Yes. Any parent may observe their child's classroom at any time. No appointment is necessary.
What is the teacher/student ratio in your school?
Our ratios are lower than the requirements of the Department of Children and Families. Typically in our classrooms the ratio would be 1:10, except for toddler groups (ratio dictated by local DCF regulations).
Our school has two outdoor play areas which are naturally shaded and among the largest playgrounds in the Port Orange area. Does the Montessori School of Port Orange have outdoor playgrounds?
Yes. Our school has two outdoor play areas which are naturally shaded and among the largest playgrounds in the Port Orange area. In addition to the outdoor playgrounds we also have a large indoor climbing/ball pit play area for rainy or inclement weather.
Is morning or afternoon snacks provided by the school?
Both a morning and afternoon snack is provided at no cost to the parent. Along with the daily snack, each child receives a nutritious fruit juice beverage.
Does the Montessori school offer a Summer Camp Program?
Yes. Once the nine month school year has ended (usually late May) we offer a Summer Program. During this program parents may pick and choose from several schedules in order to accommodate their own summer vacation plans. Afternoon field trips such as mini golf, bowling, swimming, movies are offered to children age 4 through 8 years of age.
